99 Euro-Bioreactor

As a provider of a flexible laboratory solution (LIMS) we are extremely interested in supporting young, committed and creative minds in their drive for practice-oriented research. Thus, we are pleased to once again support the competition for the best bioreactor on July 4 and 5, 2019 at the Chair of Biochemical Engineering at Dresden University of Technology.

The challenge was to build a functional bioreactor with only 99 Euros. In order to get the most out of the tight budget, the young researchers became very inventive. For example, old PET bottles or jars of cucumber were converted into bioreactors. In the end, the team around "Vibrio natrigens and the Boys" (TU Kaiserslautern) succeeded in winning first place for the highest biomass productivity. Second place went to the team "Im Osten geht die Sonne auf" (HS Zittau/Görlitz), which was awarded for the highest yield. The third place went to the team "Uni Stuttgart", which was honored for the most innovative concept by the sponsors.

We congratulate all participants and are looking forward to the challenge next year.
